We had a jolly successful Valentine’s lunch on Sunday 14 February at the Union Club.
Peter prepared a tasty carvery as well as a prawn dish for those who felt that way inclined.
De Waal was invited to read some Valentine poems. He read a poem written by Brian Blake, as well as one by Bernice Blake, especially written for the occasion. He then concluded with the following poem:
On Valentine’s Day, we think of people
who have cheered and encouraged us,
who go out of their way
to be kind and caring,
who have enriched our lives
just by being themselves.
You are such a person.
I’m so happy you’re my fellow Lion.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Willem did the rounds and handed the ladies each a beautiful long-stemmed red rose. That was a great idea! Well done Tony Scheffel and everybody else who helped to make the day a success.
