Our 67 minutes on Mandela Day
On Saturday 17 July the Lions descended on Sterkfontein Hospital to spend a busy two hours at ward 18.
We sponsored items like compost, gardening tools and standard roses and helped the other volunteers to plant the roses and to paint the mural on one wall of the ward.
Apart from the fun of helping to beautify the area, we also had the opportunity to meet people from the top management at the hospital. This type of contact will certainly make it easier for us to organise our monthly drive to the botanical garden with the patients.
We were fortunate in that it was a sparkling, sunny day and not cold at all. It was a great outing!

Hello Fellow Lions
I have been tasked with the District portfolio for Youth (Youth Exchange Programme, Leos and Peace Poster). This is a formidable task and I am stepping into unknown territory.
I require assistance please. I would like to form committees for the three programmes and am calling for any Lions with a passion for either of the programmes to contact me as soon as possible.
Club Secretaries, kindly forward this request to your respective Members.
Youth Exchange Programme is well under way. We still require hosting of four (4) Italian students. Their stay in our District is 16 – 23 July. I am hoping that two clubs would come forward and take two each?
Leos The Charter has been received for our lastest Leo Club at the Princess High School. Further details to follow
Peace Poster I have ordered the additional kits as requested. Once the schools reopen will let your Club Co-Ordinators liaise and ensure that the correct specifications are being used by contestants. Lets go for 410B Gold.
I look forward to working with you during the Lionistic year 2010/2011.
Yours in Lionism
